Event Report: Indonesia-China Bilateral Government-to-Government South-South Exchanges (Available in English Only)
From 25 to 29 May 2025, the Government of Indonesia hosted a bilateral South-South Exchange with China on green finance and the circular economy, organized by Bappenas and UNDP Indonesia through PAGE, Sustainable Infrastructure Programme in Asia (SIPA), and Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN) initiatives. The exchange aimed to strengthen partnerships between the two countries to address global environmental challenges, share policy instruments, and promote sustainable development leadership within the Global South. Activities included high-level policy dialogues, panel discussions, and field visits to key green infrastructure sites such as Integrated Waste Management Facility (Tempat Pengolahan Sampah Terpadu/TPST) Bantargebang, sustainable transport hubs-Manggarai-BNI Station, and Bogor Botanical Garden.
Throughout the exchange, both countries explored strategies to align regulatory frameworks and foster public-private partnerships. While no immediate agreements were finalized, there was mutual interest in future collaboration, including a follow-up mission to China in July 2025. Recommendations focused on institutionalizing the exchange mechanism, fostering peer-to-peer learning, involving academia and private sectors, and preparing joint contributions to global forums like COP30 and the G20. The event reinforced shared commitments to biodiversity, climate action, and sustainable consumption, paving the way for deeper cooperation in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
